HOW TO
WRITE BETTER DIRECT MARKETING LETTERS
- Keep the first sentence
shorter than usual, no more than 16 words
- All direct mail
letters must include a strong headline.
- It is a proven
fact that longer letters work better than short ones, but they
must be interesting.
- Always have
a P.S. Only headlines are read more than a P.S.
- Repeat a variation
of the main benefit (of what you are selling) in the P.S.
- Don’t let punctuation
interfere with any part of the copy. If in doubt, leave the
punctuation out – especially if the words already make good
sense to others and when read out loud.
