HOW TO WRITE BETTER DIRECT MARKETING LETTERS

  • Keep the first sentence shorter than usual, no more than 16 words
  • All direct mail letters must include a strong headline.
  • It is a proven fact that longer letters work better than short ones, but they must be interesting.
  • Always have a P.S. Only headlines are read more than a P.S.
  • Repeat a variation of the main benefit (of what you are selling) in the P.S.
  • Don’t let punctuation interfere with any part of the copy. If in doubt, leave the punctuation out – especially if the words already make good sense to others and when read out loud.
